Water Fire Extinguishers
Water fire extinguishers are ideal for Class A type fires involving freely burning materials such as wood, paper and fabrics. Water is a fast, efficient means of extinguishing these materials. The water fire extinguishers are available in both gas cartridge operated and stored pressure versions. Both fire extinguishers are kite marked and have an impressive fire fighting performance.
Foam Fire Extinguishers
Foam fire extinguishers are ideal for multi-risk situations where class A and B risks exist. Class B fires, those involving flammable liquids, such as petrol, diesel, spirits, solvents and lubricants, can be tackled very effectively. The foam fire extinguishers, which are available in both gas cartridge and stored pressure versions, contain an aqueous film forming foam which gives rapid flame knock-down and has a blanketing effect, smothering the flames and sealing vapours to prevent re-ignition. All models, with the exception of the Foam Branchpipe, have a spray nozzle which produces a very effective spread of foam, even when used by an inexperienced operator. All spray models have passed an electrical conductivity of discharge test which means that if accidentally used on electrical equipment, the spray foam will not conduct electricity.
Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers
The range of dry powder fire extinguishers is extremely versatile as they are not only suitable for Class A and B fires but also Class C fires involving flammable gases such as propane and butane. They are also safe to use on electrical risks because of the non-conductivity of dry powder. The monnex powder extinguisher contains a very high performance dry powder. It is ideal for protecting high risk areas. All models have a 15 bar working pressure for optimum performance.
CO2 Fire Extinguishers
Suitable for situations involving flammable liquids and electrical risks. They are non-toxic and expel a clean gas which leaves little residue and are ideal for offices and workshops, and when used, they minimise the damage to equipment. They are ideal for protecting electrical equipment such as computers, fax machines and photocopiers.
Wet Chemical Fire Extinguishers
The wet chemical fire extinguisher is ideal for class F fires, involving cooking oils and fats, such as lard, olive oil, sunflower oil, maize oil and butter. It is extremely effective as the wet chemical rapidly knocks the flames out, cools the burning oil and chemically reacts to produce a soap-like solution, sealing the surface and preventing re-ignition. Independent fire tests have established that it is capable of extinguishing a fire in a 75 litre capacity deep fat fryer. The wet chemical fire extinguisher is easy to use, producing a gentle, but highly effective spray. The gentle application helps prevent hot oil splashing onto the user. An added benefit is that it is also suitable for freely burning materials (class A) such as wood, paper and fabrics.
Stainless Steel Fire Extinguishers
The stainless steel fire extinguishers are available in two sizes, 6 and 9 litre/kilos, for water, foam and powder models. In situations where interior design is an important consideration this range is the ideal solution. The corrosion resistant, polished stainless steel also makes them ideal for hostile environments.
Wheeled Fire Extinguishers
Suitable for protecting large industrial and marine risks, these wheeled fire extinguishers are available in a choice of extinguishants and sizes. All models are mounted on a strong steel chassis with solid rubber tyres for ease of movement and long life.
Fire blankets are used where extinguishers are not suitable for the given risk. Typically they are used in commercial and domestic kitchens to tackle cooking oil fires. If a fire extinguisher is aimed into a burning pan, the sudden expansion of gas as it is forced under the surface of the oil could cause the oil to burst out of the pan, spreading the fire. A fire blanket on the other hand smothers the fire, starving it of oxygen. Fire blankets in larger sizes are also used where people work near flammable liquids. A victim whose clothes were alight would be laid on the ground and the blanket used to wrap around them, again smothering the fire.
Safety note: A pan which has been involved in such a fire must never be moved until it has cooled down, which will be much longer than you might think.
