Info: We were hired to work alongside a developer who designed and built some residential apartments. We were tasked with installing the cavity barriers. We liaised with the architect ensuring the correct specification of barrier type was selected before we installed the open state cavity barrier in conjunction with the fire strategy drawings.
The OSCB’s were installed between the substrate and external cladding at party walls, around the window openings, and change of floor levels. This helps prevent the passage of heat, smoke, and fire throughout the concealed spaces and cavities.
This type of barrier is designed to allow the ventilation necessary within a wall construction, but the intumescent material will activate with heat causing the barrier to expand, closing the cavity fully.
We worked with our client to install the cavity barriers to their exact specifications, and worked hard to ensure that the quality of our work was faultless. The client was thrilled with the outcome.
