Fire Extinguishers
Need Fire Extinguishers at your Premises in Cambridgeshire?
Keeping your workplace equipped with working fire extinguishers is a critical part of fire safety. All businesses need to have fire extinguishers quickly accessible in the event of a fire.
However, just having a stock of fire extinguishers is not enough. Over time fire extinguishers can lose pressure, and this along with general wear and tear can mean that they won’t work when you need them to. Having your extinguishers regularly serviced is essential to maintain the safety of your workplace. It is a legal requirement to have your fire extinguishers serviced annually in order to keep them in optimal condition.
At Prestige, we offer not only quick and efficient fire extinguisher installation to business across the Cambridgeshire area, but we also provide annual fire extinguisher servicing that guarantees to keep your fire safety equipment reliable and compliant.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Different types of fires require different fire extinguishers. If you try to fight a fire with the wrong extinguisher, you could end up doing more harm than good.
There are five main types of fire extinguisher:
- Water, water spray, or water mist fire extinguishers
- Foam fire extinguishers
- Dry powder fire extinguishers
- Carbon dioxide (CO2) fire extinguishers
- Wet chemical fire extinguishers
The types of fires that the extinguishers fight are as follows:
- Wood, paper, and textile fires (Class A)
- Flammable liquids fires (Class B)
- Flammable gas fires (Class C)
- Combustible Metal fires (Class D)
- Electrical contact fires (Electrical)
- Cooking oils and fats fires (Class F)
Choosing the right extinguisher can prevent damage to your property and save lives:
Water | Foam | Dry Powder | CO2 | Wet Chemical | |
Wood, paper, & textiles (Class A) | √ | √ | √ | X | √ |
Flammable liquids (Class B) | X | √ | √ | √ | X |
Flammable gasses (Class C) | X | X | √ | X | X |
Combustible Metals (Class D) | X | X | √ | X | X |
Electrical contact (Electrical) | X | X | √ | √ | X |
Cooking oils and fats (Class F) | X | X | X | X | √ |
It’s important to make sure you use the right fire extinguisher for the right type of fire. If you use a water-based extinguisher on a flammable liquid fire, for example, you could spread the liquid out instead of containing the fire.
